Tourists are in for a surprise package when they reach India. All they have to do is to pick up a destination and plan their itinerary. India is truly a wonderland and is blessed with abundant wildlife, enchanting beauty, rich heritage and glorious culture. Month-wise guide to travelling in India:

January: 

Weather in North India is generally cold in January. Tourists can explore top destinations like Jammu and Kashmir, Manali, Mussoorie and Shimla to enjoy snowfall. A planned weekend gateway to Rajasthan during this month is a great option for sightseeing. Enjoy the alluring view of the snow-clad mountains in the Himalayas. The afternoons are generally warm and dry with bright sunlight. Few parts in the North suffer from low visibility due to the presence of fog. The weather in Southern part of the county is quite warm and sunny in this month.

February:

February is one of the best months to visit India. This month marks the beginning of pleasant weather with abundant sunshine. Almost all parts of the county are warm and hotels get booked in advance due to the favourable weather conditions.

March:

Tourists from all parts of the world love to travel to India for both great weather and the popular Holi festival. The festival of colours is celebrated across the four corners of the country with a lot of pomp and show. Make your way to the land of Lord Krishna, Mathura-Vrindavan, to feel the essence of Holi.

April:

The temperatures begin to rise country-wide from April. This is the best month to enjoy wildlife. As the temperature goes up, it becomes easy to sight animals near the water sources. Plan a trip to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve if you love wildlife photography. This is also the best time to spot tigers near watering holes. Easter is a popular festival that is celebrated in April with much fanfare.

May:

May is one of the hottest months of the year. The temperature is quite high and can go up to 45°C, which can be very uncomfortable. It is that time of the year when the schools and colleges are closed for summer vacations. To escape the rising temperature in the North,  people plan to visit various hill stations. Ooty, Kodaikanal, Munnar, Coonoor, Lakshwadeep islands are some of the best places to  experience nature’s serenity.

June:

In June, the days are sunny, humidity is high and some regions frequently experience thunderstorms. The rest of India eagerly waits for the arrival of monsoons. Ladakh is one of the finest destinations to travel to during this month. Mesmerizing lakes, barren valleys and snow-clad peaks make this land of the Lamas even more beautiful. Tourists must try the yummy Ladakhi cuisine which includes Thukpa, Butter tea, Momos and Tigmo etc.

July:

The month of July marks the beginning of the monsoon season. Celebrations are underway due to the moderate temperature and wetland. Tourists generally prefer this season due to various water activities and sports. Lush green pastures, rich vegetation and pleasant climate is the perfect time for vacationing in India.

August:

Plenty of rainfall and higher water levels make August and September the best months for cruising. It is also the ideal time to grab favourable and cheap travel deals. Lots of hotels and airlines offer huge discounts to tourists during the monsoon period. Explore the places that are rich in heritage like Mandu, Khajuraho, Bikaner and Udaipur etc. One can also plan a trip to Cherrapunji to enjoy the beauty of vast lush green landscapes and hills that are perfect for monsoon trekking.

September:

The receding monsoon makes September as the perfect time of the year to take a break from work and travel to a beautiful place. Plan a trip to Mumbai to welcome Lord Ganesha. When in Mumbai during September, one can witness themed pandals, royal idols and glittering  décor to make it more special. Modak, a popular sweetmeat offered to Lord Ganesha as Prasad, is worth trying. Those who have time can plan a day trip to Lonavala and experience the sheer beauty of nature.

October:

October is the month of the start of the peak travel season for tourists. The rains are generally over in the North by this time, while some parts of the South get unpredictable showers. The return of sunny days in the North makes the weather warm. Diwali, the ancient Hindu festival of lights is also celebrated during this month as per dates. The entire country performs Lakshmi Pooja on this day to appease Goddess Lakshmi. Diyas, candles and electric lights are placed outside the houses.

November:

November is one of the best months to travel anywhere in India. This month offers wonderful weather as well as multiple festivals. As per the Hindu calendar, the festival of Dusherra and Diwali are celebrated across India in October or November with a lot of enthusiasm. In Rajasthan Pushkar Camel Fair is a unique event to witness.

December:

Tourists love to travel to Goa in December to enjoy the sunny and warm weather. It is important to plan your trip well in advance due to the overbooking of hotels by travellers. A temperature in North India gets low during this month. Christmas is celebrated all over the country with a lot of joy and excitement. Many art, music and traditional events organized in different parts of the country during December.
